Known for: theological contributes, defense of Christianity, and being one of the most ardent apologists for Theosis

Life: He was born to a Christian family in Alexandria circa 295 AD. He was given an extensive secular education, but it became clear that he was more interested in theology. In 328, he took the title of Bishop of Alexandria when the previous one had died. He spent much of his time battling the various heresies that were popping up all around him, including Arianism. He was eventually exiled by the Emperor for false accusations made against him. In his place, an Arian bishop named Gregory took his place. It wasn’t until 346 when he was eventually allowed back into Egypt. This, however, didn’t last, as he kept being exiled and kept being reinstated several times until his death. All the while he was professing key Christian theology, such as theosis and the doctrine of the Trinity.
